The 2006 race was a huge success that couldn’t have been possible without the hard work and dedication of the volunteers. The San José REVs are looking to continue that success and are looking for more volunteers. Please review the following job descriptions to see which area interests you most.

 Credentials
Credential volunteers support the operations of the registration group. This requires assembling and alphabetically filing packets with proper credentials, ensuring credentials have proper access tags and related race information. Volunteers ensure the proper credentials are issued after verifying the identification of those requesting credentials. Basic filing and clerical skills are required, and volunteers are expected to stand for long periods of time. Volunteers will have to work with the credentialing of other volunteers, members of the media and press, team and sponsor representatives, as well as the race teams. Assignment to this area requires that a volunteer commit to a minimum of thirty (30) hours for up to two weeks prior to and during race weekend. This area may or may not be located off the track site.
 Information Services
Information Services volunteers provide information about the race, race-related activities and the metropolitan San José area and customer services to the racing public. Volunteers assigned to this area may need to receive training, prepare and organize materials prior to the race and be available on Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the race weekend. A three-day commitment is preferred. This busy area requires active, friendly volunteers who are people-oriented.
 Track Services
Track service volunteers have the unique opportunity to be "behind the scenes" with the production of the Grand Prix. Volunteers in this particular area are asked to assist the operational staff on race weekend, as well as the weeks before and after the event with various "hands on" projects. This area is for volunteers who don't mind getting dirty.

Duties include:

Tire wall construction, television placement, painting, and overall track maintenance, including making repairs to the pits and track on race weekend. Installation, maintenance and removal of track signage (sponsor banners, credential access, directional, grandstand, etc.)

Volunteers who are interested in this area should be aware that certain assignments may require heavy physical activity.

Assignment to this area requires that volunteers be available for race week daytime and evening hours and up to three months prior to race weekend.
 Promotional Team
Members of the promotional team will travel throughout downtown San José and its surrounding cities to promote awareness of the San José Grand Prix and REVS. Many events will also feature the San José Grand Prix/Canary Fund display car. These events will require members of the promotional team to help transport/position the car at the venue and pass out promotional materials. Please check the box if you are interested and a REVS representative will be in contact with you! Please note that the Promotional Team efforts are above and beyond your race weekend commitment.
 Expo/Festival Area
Volunteers help coordinate and manage multiple events in the Convention Center. They oversee all entertainment stages, autograph sessions, local information booths and security within these areas of the Convention Center, making sure stages are appropriately set for musical performers and the Miss San José Grand Prix event. Volunteers interact with Grand Prix event management team leaders to ensure desired results within the operations organization.
 Office Services
Office services volunteers will support the operation of the San José Grand Prix offices during the weeks leading up to the race. General office tasks range from answering telephones, operating a word processor or PC, assembling mailings, running copies, distributing marketing materials, or assisting members of the Grand Prix staff. Assignment to this area requires that a volunteer must commit a minimum of thirty (30) hours and be willing to be away from the track for at least one day during race weekend. If you elect to assist in staffing the phone in the on-site office, you will need to be available all three days of race weekend, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Additionally, you may be asked to assist the Grand Prix staff in the months prior to the race. Time spent prior to race weekend volunteering in this area will go toward your 30 hour commitment
 Hotel Guest Services
Volunteers assist hotel staff and guests in moving luggage from Hotel Tents to Hotels. They ensure hotel and event shuttles are providing adequate service to guests at Hotel Tents. They also help direct event attendees from the Hotel Tents and provide direction and transportation for ADA attendees. Volunteers in this area may need to lift and carry heavy luggage and should be friendly and active. A three day commitment is preferred.
 Pass Control/Pedestrian Flow
Volunteers help control crowds as well as access to restricted areas. They check for tickets and proper credentials and direct patrons around the circuit. They help direct traffic over bridges and through walkways. A typical day can begin as early as 7:00 am and go until 7:00 pm. Assignment to this area requires that volunteers be available all three days of race weekend.
 Media
Volunteers in the media area staff the media workroom. They make sure that writers and photographers on deadline have the information they need. Also, assisting photographers on the track, running off and distributing printed materials in the media center, assisting with the media viewing deck, photo lounge, deadline room check-in, post-race interviews, and victory podium.
 Hospitality
Hospitality volunteers facilitate the operation of corporate suites. Assignment to this area is not as a host or hostess, but to assist clients and the race staff in maintaining well-run suites, making sure clients have and receive proper credentials, and making sure that a supply of materials are kept on hand. Volunteers in this area may have to walk up and down stairs, as well as be in direct sunlight at times. It is important that volunteers in hospitality be flexible and friendly. Assignment to this area requires that volunteers be available no less than Saturday and Sunday of race weekend. However, a three-day commitment is preferred.
 Grandstand Ushers
Usher volunteers control the flow of crowds into the grandstand areas and assist patrons to their seating locations. Ushers must also deter people from entering grandstand areas for which they do not have tickets and redirecting them properly. Due to the location of the grandstands, ushers will have a great view of the on-track activities while performing their volunteer service. In addition, some ushers will assist those who may be physically challenged. Volunteers assigned to this area will help maintain the handicapped seating tower, operate the tower lift, and help physically challenged persons enter and leave safely. Assignment to this area requires that volunteers be available on Saturday and Sunday of race weekend, however, a three day commitment is preferred.
