Team San Jose and Nederlander Concerts Partner to Promote and Produce Events at the Historic Civic Auditorium
San Jose, CA (Vocus) February 13, 2009 -- Team San Jose (http://www.sanjose.org) has announced a new partnership with Nederlander Concerts (http://www.NederlanderConcerts.com) to promote and produce concerts and special events at the historic Civic Auditorium in Downtown San Jose, CA. Nederlander and Team San Jose will have a dedicated local team to attract top touring artists to the Civic for the enjoyment of music fans throughout San Jose and across the Bay Area. The 3,000-seat venue will be revitalized as a premier Downtown entertainment destination and will be a must-play venue for artists touring throughout the West Coast.
Under Mayor Chuck Reed and San Jose City Council's leadership, a $13 million renovation of the venue, approved in 2007, has begun. A state-of-the-art sound and lighting system, seating upgrades, more restrooms and a new concessions program are some of the key improvements that will come together to enhance the fan experience. In addition to the sound and light improvements, the venue's production capability will be significantly increased to accommodate the requirements of top touring bands on the road and large scale special events.
In association with Team San Jose, manager of the Civic Auditorium as well as other cultural facilities in Downtown, Nederlander Concerts will leverage a team of industry veterans and their extensive contacts in conjunction with the Company's network of award winning venues to bring top headline talent and events to the Civic. The City of San Jose recently extended its contract with Team San Jose to manage six facilities including the Civic. This extension was based on Team San Jose's strong results over the last five years in increasing revenue, events and visitors for San Jose.
"Team San Jose is proud to partner with Nederlander Concerts," said Dan Fenton, President and CEO San Jose Convention and Visitors Bureau and CEO Team San Jose. "Together with Team San Jose's local experience and Nederlander's solid track record in the concert and special events industry, this new partnership is a perfect addition to put the San Jose Civic Auditorium at center stage, with top status in the market for concerts (http://www.NederlanderConcerts.com) and events."
"We at Nederlander Concerts are excited about our partnership with Team San Jose and building upon the incredible history of this iconic venue, which has played host to some of the biggest stars of all time," said Adam Friedman, CEO of Nederlander Concerts. "The venue fits within the coveted mid-size space where top artists prefer to play and fans prefer to see their favorite performers. We are pleased that we will be able to bring our vast experience in booking similar venues in routing the very best in live entertainment to San Jose."
Many of the most popular entertainers and public figures have appeared at the venue creating memorable historic events since its opening in 1934. Celebrated artists such as Duke Ellington, Buddy Holly, The Grateful Dead, The Who, Bob Dylan, Barbra Streisand, Cream and the Rolling Stones have graced the venue's stage. Richard Nixon made national headlines during an anti-war demonstration at the Civic. And the venue has presented major sporting events including boxing matches with champions such as Jack Dempsey and Joe Lewis.
The Civic Auditorium was created through a joint venture between San Jose residents, Federal Government and local property owners Mr. and Mrs. T.S. Montgomery, who donated the City of San Jose the property where the Civic sits today.
